Human Spirit/Life Quality

These 6 simple words could change the lives of nearly 2.5 billion kids.

Hey, hey what do you say, it’s now time for adults to play! Whose play? Our play! – goodchants.org

Back in the 1980s U.N. world leaders committed to the Rights of the Child. The importance of play was showcased then and recently resurrected through the International Day of Play for Children, on June 11th.

An impressive list of international NGOs and corporations support the International Day of Play for Children. They’ve put together a splashy website. Its wonderful to see them suggest how play for kids needs to be on the agenda today and every day. But, what about the adults?

How can kids be expected to play if adults are not encouraged to play? To save the kids don’t we first need to save ourselves? We can’t help but hear the flight attendant — in ear shot — shouting — in case of an emergency put your oxygen mask on first and then help your child.

In a recent LinkedIn post, Erin Faehrmann Chief Play Officer of Lead With Play points out:

It’s pretty clear. The kids ‘get it.’ It’s the adults that we worry about.

To best take care of the kids, we must prioritize taking care of ourselves — first. Remember we are adults much longer than we are children.

Still wondering what those six simple words are that can change the lives of nearly 2.5 billion kids?

Teach. Adults. To. Play. Every. Day.

Perhaps It’s time for a playful protest in favor of more adult play?
